To make Tofu Croustillant au Sésame, you need simple and fresh ingredients. The main star is firm tofu. I prefer this type because it holds its shape well and crisps up nicely. You should press it to remove excess water before cooking.

Ingredients

400g firm tofu, pressed and drained

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup sesame seeds (white and black mixed)

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

2 tablespoons sesame oil

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon ginger powder

1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish

Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes or triangles, roughly 2 centimeters thick.

In a shallow dish, mix the cornstarch, garlic powder, ginger powder, and chili flakes (if using).

In another bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and maple syrup. Stir well until combined.

Dip each tofu piece into the soy sauce mixture then coat it in the cornstarch mixture, ensuring it is well covered. Repeat until all pieces are coated.

Spread the sesame seeds on a plate. Press each coated tofu piece into the seeds to ensure a generous coating on all sides.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the tofu pieces in batches without overcrowding the pan.

Fry the tofu for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Serve immediately, garnished with fresh cilantro or chopped green onions, and a drizzle of extra soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce if desired.
